Sete has a railway station on the main line, virtually all trains stop here.  It takes about 7 hours from St Pancras to Sete; Eurostar, change at Lille or Paris for a TGV which goes to Montpellier and or Perpignan. Rail Europe (01732 520 550) are liable to say they cannot do Sete, or that they can only book to Montpellier and the extra leg to Sete will cost you £25 each way.  www.voyages-sncf.com is nearly as bad. If Montpellier is as far as you can book, do that, and let us know and we’ll buy and post the tickets for the last leg (something like 10~15€ return).

Normally we can pick you up, depending on kiddy sleep times etc.  Failing that the number 3 bus starts at the Gare (station), walk out the front, turn left and the stop is at the side of the station building. It runs Mon to Sat every 20 minutes, last one at 19:15ish, Sundays it becomes the number 23 one every hour; journey takes about 15minutes.  It costs 1€, pay the driver and composte your ticket.  Ask to be put off at Pré de Calais, walk about 30m on from the stop, then right up the Impasse des Pyrenées, across avenue du Tennis and you are in our road! Map 3 below shows the walk. It’s about a 500m walk in total.  Taxi should be about 12€ but there aren’t that many of them (you could try +33 467 46 07 77)

Ryanair Luton-Béziers is my favourite .  We can probably collect you from Béziers or Montpellier, depending on school, kiddy sleeping times etc.    Also you can try Perpignan and then a train, or Nimes and a train, or even Avignon and a train, Lyon, Marseille or even Barcelona aren't completely mad especially if you are coming from a long way away.  (or if you are travelling from mainland Europe, Ryanair have a hub they call Girona/Barcelona, but you would probably want to rent a car 2h30m drive)) I suggest www.skyscanner.net (personally I just say from any UK airport to any French airport and take it from there.). Remember you can fly in to one airport and leave from a different one!

Drive for days.  Get onto the A9.

Leave A9 motorway on D600 signed SETE (you can come along the non motorway roads, which would add 20mins or so, in which case you would enter on west side and the instructions don't make sense until the point marked *)

Google maps are ok, see below

Entering Sete follow signs for Métairies and Béziers, which take you round northern circuit see map onto Bd Joliot-Curie*

*left up rue d'Aquitaine (look for the sign Panoramique), then right on avenue du Tennis then left rue d'Auvergne at the stop sign.
The map looks like you can turn left from main road; but you cannot
If you miss it go to tiny island and double back along avenue du Tennis

Do NOT take short cuts over the top of the hill, which is something a satnav might suggest you do, unless you are fully prepared with parachutes, crampons, armour plating etc (the roads are steep and narrow); just stick to the perimeter.
